LEDs and the Environment

A lot of people vaguely understand why a bulb Led is better for the environment than an incandescent bulb, but not many really see the quantifiable differences between the two. Yes, LEDs require less energy, but why? Incandescents blow out more quickly, but why? Is it possible to make an incandescent bulb that lasts as long as an LED? Read more »

Decorating with LEDs

Up until recently, LED technology wasn’t really considered “decorative.” Sure, a power LED could find its way into a stop light, or a circuit board, or a flashlight, but their harsh, bright light wasn’t very adaptable for home use. Since people tend to prefer softer mood lighting, this meant that you would be very hard pressed to find a MR11 LED in someone’s living room. Read more »

The Many Uses for LED Bulbs

A lot of people hear “light emitting diode,” and think of those tiny, annoyingly bright points of light you see used for computers and other technological applications, SMD LEDs. The fact is, however, that power LED technology has come a very long way from those little diodes. Now, it’s possible to find a bulb LED to fit just about every application in your home, from task lights to mood lighting. Read more »

LEDs and Safety

A LED diode isn’t commonly thought of as a piece of safety equipment, but the fact is that their very nature makes them ideal for the task. Because SMD LEDs are tiny and can be easily soldered to just about anything, they are ideal as warning lights to tell users when a piece of equipment is on. Read more »

Saving Money on LEDs

LED technology is highly desirable for people who want to save energy, but a lot of LED lighting options for home use are still pretty expensive. You can get a multi-pack of regular incandescent bulbs for as little as two dollars, but getting a nice, dimmable LED for mood lighting can run you fifty dollars or more! Fortunately, it is possible to save money on LEDs, with some creativity. Read more »

Here Are Some Important Answers To Your Questions About Led Lighting And Enery Savings

Lizzie asks…

HDTV should a consumer wait for the new tech soon to arrive?

Hello, I was wondering as to what a consumer should do now that new HDTV technology such as the laser and OLED TVs are soon to arrive. I saw Sony 27″ tv with a 1Meg:1 Contrast ratio and Mitsubishi’s Laser TV technology which according to an article will be released at the end of this year. According to the article this new tech could replace plasmas and LCDs. I know the price might be high for this new tech but I would like to get some input on this issue. Thank you.

ledtech answers:

I think you should not wait for a better technology only if what you have now is worth scrap and not useful at all

Sharon asks…

when will OLED tvs be sold?

i wanna buy atv but im not sure if i should wait for OLED or just go with a plasma or lcd

ledtech answers:

They’re being sold now but are very expensive. $2500 for this small one from Sony. It’s be a few years until the price comes down on these but the technology is advancing pretty rapidly for OLEDs. When they do come out in mass quanities, they’re going to be worth it. For now stick with the LCD or plasma. Plasmas are starting to become scares though. They used to be the choice for larger screens but the companies have eliminated the cons of LCDs and have made them a better buy. Wait until the Thanksgiving day sales. You should be able to find good deals on LCDs.

Paul asks…

What are these OLED TVs?

I heard that they’re super thin, and that you can fold them? Is that true?

And when will they be released?

ledtech answers:

You heard correctly. An OLED display can be draped over a chair, for example, but currently they are mounted inside ultra thin TV sets.

I wouldn’t count on getting one any time soon–if it comes to market at all.

The big problem is that it’s currently very hard to make OLED TVs in large sizes; for instance, the largest OLED display Sony at the Consumer Electronics Show was 27 inches. Also, manufacturers are still experimenting with the display’s organic materials to increase the lifespan to the point where OLED panels’ lifespan would be competitive to that of plasma’s.

There was a small screen model introduced this year. An 11″ Sony for $2,500 but it is no longer in consumer production due to the lack of demand. Http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=oled+television&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=7457040179251382059&ei=s-88TLqqAYzA8ATTwan9DA&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CC4Q8wIwAg#

There are patent problems that are also held back production of these sets. Apparently Kodak holds patents on some of the technologies used in OLED, and that means any other TV manufacturer who builds these sets must pay Kodak for using the technologies.

I wouldn’t say that this technology is necessarily dead, but Sony’s poor financial performance at the time will likely signal an end to the production of future OLED TVs. Other manufacturers, such as Samsung and LG, have demoed their own OLED TVs at trade shows. But, like Sony, these companies have bumped into the challenge of mass producing such sets. So none of the announced products has actually hit the market.

Sony’s exit from the technology could be the nail in the coffin for OLED TV, at least for now, as companies look to other less costly innovations such as 3D TVs and LED backlit LCDs.

Thomas asks…

When will the average width of a tv be 1mm?

looking at the new oled screens it doesnt seem to be too far ahead. will screens be like a poster ?

ledtech answers:

Not in our lifetime. Unless nanotechnology takes a giant leap.

Here Are Some Important Answers To Your Questions About Led Lighting And Enery Savings

Lisa asks…

Where can i find LED lighting for my home?

I am remodeling my home and would like to use led lighting in as many places as possible but it seems like the only led lighting available at this time is just accent lighting.Does anyone know of a website that has LED lighting for the home as a main source?

ledtech answers:

Led lighting is used a lot here in england what you can do is use replacement led bulbs for common down lighter etc
But remember it can be difficult and expensive to dim led bulbs as this either requires special led drivers light switches or bulbs (or the use of dummy loads which negate the power saving )

Richard asks…

Can I use LED light bulb on my 3-way lighting fixture?

I know there is no 3-way LED bulb yet. My 3-way light fixture can be set to use 50, 100 or 150 watts. Can I replace the old bulb with LED bulb and keep the setting on 50 watts permanently? The LED light bulb actually just consumes 6 watts in this case.

ledtech answers:

You’re right, 3-way led bulbs are not available. Yet. But they will be soon.
If you buy a 50 watt equivalent led bulb, it will work in your 3-way fixture. The only problem will be that you’ll have to turn (or pull) the switch twice to turn it on and twice to turn it off.

Lizzie asks…

I am searching for influential blogs, web sites, magazines, sources, etc. that review LED lighting products.?

I am searching for influential blogs, web sites, magazines, sources, etc. that review LED‘s, LED lighting products, other consumer home products. Please add the link to the web site if there is one. I am seeking more LED and technology focused sources over green sources. If it is a popular and influential green source, I what to know. Thank you for your help.

ledtech answers:

Anyone with the most rudimentary search-engine skills could find this by simply typing in “LED lights review”. Here you go, just a couple of the 1000+ hits I got.

Carol asks…

Would motion detector technology work with LED street-lighting?

Leaving the issue of safety aside, would it be cost efficient to have LED street-lights “turn-on” only when motion is detected ?
Or would there be some problem with there being frequently repeating cycles—too many “offs and ons”? If feasible, would savings be significant, over, say—LED without motion detection?

ledtech answers:

Lite have to be constant on/led is coming

Susan asks…

What are the latest applications of LED light in modern day usage?

As we are using the LED light for automobiles, traffic signals, LCD back light display, digital cameras, and in indoor/outdoor lighting

ledtech answers:

They are begining to be used for general and task lighting.

Ken asks…

Get Table Names from Oracle Database?

I have a code I found which is attempting to get the name of all of the tables in a database. When I debug the code, it’s giving me an error at conn.ConnectionString = strCn stating:
An OLE DB Provider was not specified in the ConnectionString. An example would be, ‘Provider=SQLOLEDB;’.

Below is the code:
Shared Sub getConnection()
Dim strCn As String
Dim StrDataSource = myDataSourcesName

strCn = “Data Source=strDataSource;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=myID;Password=myPW;”
Dim conn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection()
conn.ConnectionString = strCn
conn.Open()
Dim schemaTable As DataTable = conn.GetOleDbSchemaTable(OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, New Object() {Nothing, Nothing, Nothing, “TABLE”})
Form1.DataGridView1.DataSource = schemaTable
conn.Close()
End Sub

What’s the best way to resolve this?

ledtech answers:

Well first of all, you need to install the oracle client for visual studio, ODTwithODAC. Then you have to add a reference to Oracle.DataAccess.Client

Then with intellisense, you will have an Oracle set of connection, command and data adapters.

You must use the Oracle .net objects.

Richard asks…

Help with adding record to database in Visual Basic?

I am trying to add a record to an Access Database in Visual Basic.

I don’t want to use DataSets, I want to write my own SQL queries when possible, here is what I have:

Dim connection As New OleDbConnection(“Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|assets.mdb;mode=read|write”)
Dim insertCommand As New OleDbCommand(“INSERT INTO asset VALUES (‘test1′, ‘test2′, ‘test3′, test4′)”, connection)

Try
connection.Open()

MsgBox(“Connection Opened”)

insertCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()

MsgBox(“query executed”)

Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString())
Finally
connection.close()
End Try

That code executes fine, but nothing gets written to the database. I would really appreciate any help, for some reason I just can’t figure this out.
Thats not it. When I run this function, it seems to work. When I try and run in again, I even get an error saying that it cant be executed because it would create a duplicate entry. However, like I said before, nothing actually gets written to the database.

ledtech answers:

Try specifying the columns you’re inserting into in your command statement.
Insert into tableName (column1,column2,column3) Values (‘Value1′,’Value2′,’Value3′)

does your table have a unique field? Try making a field with an autonumber, you wouldn’t need to send values to it, it just keeps from making duplicated entries.

Betty asks…

Need help with Visual Basic ADO.NET?

My access table (Staff) has attributes StaffID, StaffName, Password, Role.

I want trying to write codes like
if the selected id, it’s password match with the tbxpassword.text, then do something.
But I don’t know how to write this.

I only got up to here.

Dim conn As New OleDbConnection(connString)
Try
conn.Open()
Dim selectedStaff As String = cbxStaff.SelectedValue.ToString
Dim comm_Staff As New OleDbCommand(“Select Password from Staff where StaffID=@sID”, conn)
comm_Staff.Parameters.AddWithValue(“@sID”, selectedStaff)
If tbxPassword.Text = ??? what’s the code here??? Then
Form2.Show()
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)
End Try
I try this, but won’t work too.

If tbxPassword.Text Is comm_Staff Then
Form2.Show()
End If

ledtech answers:

First of all define a new instance of oledbconnection like this:
Dim con As New OleDBConnection(“connection string goes here…;”)
then define a command object like this:
Dim com As New OleDBCommand(“your select command here…;”,con)
then start a new try block to catch any exception happening there…
Try
……con.open()
……Dim myReader As OledbDataReader=com.ExecuteReader()
……If myReader.HasRows then

……………………MessageBox.Show(“Wrong password…”)
…………End If
……End If
Catch ex As Exception
……MessageBox.Show(“Error : “+ex.Message)
Finally
……If con.state=open then con.close()
End Try

Susan asks…

I dont know where i mistake?

Try
con = New OleDbConnection(“Provider=Microsoft.ACE.… source=|DataDirectory|newuser.accdb”)
con.Open()
cmd = New OleDbCommand(“update newusertable set username=” & username.Text & “, password=” & password.Text & “, hint=” & password_hint.Text & “”, con)

con.Close()

Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
End Try

Syntax Error in UPDATE statement
plz help me
vb2010 and access 2010

ledtech answers:

I think your coding is in vb.net
put coding like this

cmd = New OleDbCommand(“update newusertable set [username]=’” & username.Text & “‘, [password]=’” & password.Text & “‘, [hint]=’” & password_hint.Text & “‘, [old_password]=’” & password.Text & “‘ “, con)

Asp.net:delete selected row in gridview?

I have a simple windows form application in vb.net ,now I am trying to use the code in asp.net web form .I want to delete the selected row from gridview and database table .I am encountering the following error:
current row / remove is not a member of System.Web.UI.web control
I have just gotten into asp.net and have tried few ways to do this but dont understand well enough.
if someone could show me some code that i could add to my form i would appreciate it
Thanks

Protected Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
Dim mResult
Dim ObjConnection As New OleDbConnection()
mResult = MsgBox(“You are really want to delete the slected record?”, _
vbYesNo + vbQuestion, “Removal Confirmation”)
If mResult = vbNo Then
Exit Sub
End If
ObjConnection.ConnectionString = “Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:testdb2.accdb”
ObjConnection.Open()
Try
Dim ObjCommand As New OleDbCommand()
ObjCommand.Connection = ObjConnection

ObjCommand.CommandText = “delete from table1 where date_=’” & Me.GridView1.CurrentRow.Cells(0).Value & “‘”
ObjCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
Finally
ObjConnection.Close()
End Try

Me.GridView1.Rows.Remove(Me.GridView1.CurrentRow)

End Sub

ledtech answers:

If you wish to get the row you selected from the grid, GridView.SelectedRow or GridView.Rows(GridView.SelectedIndex) should be the way to go.

To remove the row, I believe reloading the data is the easier way to go. Simply get the data from your database again after the deletion.

Hope this helps.

Maria asks…

My computer turns on for a second and then shuts off?

My dad’s friend (who is fairly knowledgeable with computers) installed a 1 Tb hard drive into my custom tower (because I am not very learned in how computer parts work), and when I hooked everything up in and booted the computer up, it worked fine, I had a 120 Gb external drive plugged in at the time and I when I ran the OS disc (Ubuntu), it indicated that only the external drive was recognized. Next, I pressed the power button, and then the computer did not shut off right away, so I went onto the computer and pressed the shut down button on the Ubuntu desktop screen that was up. Next, the computer went to a black boot-up looking screen, ejected the disc and when I took the disc out and closed the drive it shut off. SO…I opened the tower back up and found out that the SATA cable had never even been connected to the hard drive. I plugged the cable into the hard drive and closed her back up, I tried booting it and it wouldn’t turn on. All it does is occasionally turn on for a second (indicated by the fan and led in the fan as well as a red power light on top of the tower). Also there is an amber light glowing inside the computer, which I assume is to show that the computer is getting power, but I have no clue why this thing won’t turn on anymore. Any suggestions/solutions for this problem?

ledtech answers:

This problem, usually if you get a warning Beep first, is caused by CPU overheating. Possibly the heatsink/fan combo got disturbed during the hard drive change. Not connecting that SATA cable shows a certain amount of incompetence by the way.

V2 electronic cigarette battery problem.?

I’ve had my V2 electronic cigarette for about two weeks, and didn’t have a problem with it. Yesterday the battery ran out, so I plugged it in, and left it there for a while. The light on the charger lit up green, so I left it there for a while. After about four hours or so I noticed the light was still green, but I unplugged it anyway. I screwed on the carto and took a drag, but the LED on the battery flashed 15 times, and it emitted no vapor. I unscrewed the carto and took a drag out of the battery by itself, and it worked perfectly. I tried it again with the cartomizer, and it just flashed 15 times again. I looked up some solutions online, and found that the way to reset the battery is by blowing hard into it without a carto five times. I did this, and the LED lit up for a bit, then flashed and turned off. I tried it with the carto once more, but it flashed 15 times once again. I tried without the carto, and it works perfectly. I even tried every carto that I had left and nothing! I tried calling Customer Support but it said something about the system being down, and calling on Monday. Can any of you help me out with this, or will I have to wait till CS is back up? I don’t have any money to buy analog cigarettes, and I don’t think I can go a full day without my ecig. I already didn’t sleep at all last night. Please help!

Help with HP Notebook Black screen?

Hello, I am having a issue with my Hp G60-630US notebook and I am at a lost at how to solve it. The problem started about two weeks ago during a party. My laptop was dropped I picked it up and everything seemed fine, then the next day when I turned it on I found myself staring at a black screen no POST, no Bios, but the led lights ,the back-light ,the hdd indicator , fan, and dvd drive were working . At first I figured it may just be an error so I restarted it but unfortunately nothing changed. Being partially computer savvy and a bit desperate I began to scour the internet seeking a resolution.So I happened upon a few forums describing possible solutions, but nothing so far has worked. Before I go out and spend money on replacement parts and such I’d at least like to narrow down the issue.

Things I’ve Tried:

1. Removing Battery and power cord, holding power button for 30-60 seconds.
2. Powering Laptop on with Lcd screen at an angle
3. Removing and re-seating RAM and Hard-drive ( The latter of which caused the backlight and hdd indicator to stop functioning)
4. Holding down fn +f4 while powering on

Please help me with this dilemma, any assistance will be greatly appreciated as I don’t have the finances currently to afford a new laptop.

ledtech answers:

Restart your computer. After you pressed the power button to restart. Keep on tapping F8 key on the keyboard on and off.
Boot advanced option will show up on the screen. You may boot your computer to the following option. A. Last known good configuration stillness b. Safe mode with Networking.
If Safe mode w/networking works, restore your computer to an earlier using the system restore features.

LED monitor display problem?

I have an LED monitor(LG-22 inch).I am using it as desktop monitor.Now there is a problem.When I switch on my computer,the whole system runs as usual,except the monitor.The red light just blinks and screen shows LG logo,but the display is not coming.The power supply is ok.What could be the problem?
Please suggest a solution?
THANK YOU

ledtech answers:

First off, is your computer actually completely booting? If it is just making “I am on” noises, it may not have sufficient power from the PSU to support the graphics card running at such a high resolution.

Second, if your graphics card has two connectors, ensure that the monitor is plugged into the primary, which is usually the left-hand side (when looking at the back of the computer).

Third, check that the monitor knows which input to display. Without knowing the exact model, I can’t rule out whether or not it is one that comes with more than one input.

Good luck.

Visual basic 6 – which operating systems compatible?

Hello

I have prepared a programme using visual basic 6 (service pack 6).I used ADO connection with Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 for Access 2003 database.

I will compile the files ,create setup file and distribute it on net.

But what I want to know is with which operating systems my programme can be compatible with .

With which versions of Windows ? I think Linux and Macintosh will not be compatible.

Please inform me if anybody knows the answer already

Thanks in advance

ledtech answers:

So long as you provide the DLLs needed for the program, it should run on any Windows system. Definitely will not run on Linux or Mac without some kind of emulator.

Helen asks…

Why is IE6 preventing script execution when modifying an Access Database?

Here’s the issue, I’m using Dreamweaver MX 2004 and can connect to the database no problem but executing a sqlString to connect and add a record through IE6 and other browsers is for some reason being stopped. I get no errors what so ever but the DB is not modified as it should. In fact it seems that all database stuff I have in both ASP.NET and ASP 3.0 are not working properly when viewing it in the browser.

Nothing has changed as far as Dreamweaver goes as far as I can see and as I said there is not problem making the connection to the DB with the site whether it’s DNS (less) or OLEDB but when testing it, it’s just not working, and it should.

Any web developers out there have an idea of what’s happening? I’m on WIN XP Pro, SP2, Dreamweaver MX 2004.
I’m ruinning on IIS 5, when I say the database stuff isn’t working where it was before I mean that it seems that some of the scripts in the page, particularly ASP.NET aren’t executing. I enabled write permisions on the database, even the entire folder but got the same result which is no result. Again, no script error message, nothing to tell me there was a problem with executing or writting to the database.

ledtech answers:

If you can connect to the database in Dreamweaver, try connecting to it with Access and see if you can modify a table or execute a query. It’s either a permissions issue with your database file, a permissions issue with the webserver that the file is on, or something quirky. I’d suggest turning off Friendly error messages in IE 6 so it can (hopefully) give you some good feedback.

I’m a bit confused when you say “seems that all database stuff… Are not working properly when viewing”. So none of your select statements are returning values either? Seems like a config issue.

changing the server name & database name of a crystal report through front end?

Development Environment :

OS : Window 2000
Development Tool : VB 6.0
Backend : SQL Server 2000
Reporting Tool : Crystal Report Version 8.5
Using Active X Control Version

I developed application in VB 6.0 with Backend SQL Server 2000,
Report is Develop in Crystal Report 8.5 with approach putting Active X Control on Main MDI Form to generate report through assign properties of Crystal Report, Connection use OLEDB SQL Server

Problem : I develop any of the report at my office work fine, but when I shipped at customer place it will generate error SQL Server not found because there is different Sever Name at customer Site so how do I set the data source (OLEDB Connection, Tables Location) Programmatically

I do set properties of crystal report as below

MDIForm.oCrystalReport.ReportFileName = ListReportFileName.rpt
MDIForm.oCrystalReport.Connect = ConnectString
MDIForm.oCrystalReport.Action = 1

Note : here connect string I dynamically changed through global var as p

ledtech answers:

Just modify the connectstring and reset the control to the new string, then open it up. Same with the report file. You can load reports into the control just by changing the report parameter. In the worst case scenario you can always create a new control, configure and replace the old one.

help to improve the performance in Crystal report in c#.net?

i have developed small windows application in C#.net,also i create crystal report in this and they are connected to database through create new connection ” OLEDB sql server” connection but my problem is when i run this application all things are OK but when i going to open this report form that contain CrystalreportViewer it open very “SLOWLY” and Display that Data from dataBase.
plz help me for that problem my EmailID:pappupatil89@yahoo.in

ledtech answers:

Can you post the SQL query that it is trying to execute? Crystal is never the fastest thing on the planet, but a bad sql query can make performance horrible. Also, is your database normalized. The app may perform fine, but when doing large queries it has to do many table scans.

Here Are Some Important Answers To Your Questions About Led Lighting And Enery Savings

Ken asks…

Will a magnet affect led/lighting lamp, if you wanted the magnet to act as fixture function?

ledtech answers:

Basicly NO.But if the magnet was strong enough (like in a linear accelerator) it could effect current flow in the leads when moved.

Betty asks…

Camera Led lighting opions?

I have been doing a little research on various LED lighting brands for photography and videography. Some of the brands I have found are Litepanels, Flolight, and the LED600 from Cool Lights. I was wondering if some people had first hand experience with these brands and what their opions were about these products.. Litepanels seems to be the most expensive, then follow by Flolight, and the lowest is from Cool Lights

ledtech answers:

My first experience with LED lamps was rather dismal.

Having be used to using 750 watt incandescent lamps, the LED’s were a disappointment. I am sure there will be a time that they become a standard light source in the studio, but not for me at this time.

I suggest that you visit a professional camera store and have them demonstrate what LED studio lights they have and what some of the issues may be using them.

I shoot a lot of fashion and making sure that the textiles we shoot match the colour depicted on the film or image file is critical. Some fabric must be photographed using indirect sun, others using incandescent lamps and using a colour meter to nail the Kelvin temperature of the lights being used. It can become especially frustrating when shooting fabrics of different blends of textile.

If you can, take some test shots using a Macbeth ColorChecker Chart using the LED lamps in the store. This should tell you more than any opinions on this forum

Susan asks…

LED Lighting question?

So, I’ve been looking into LED lighting, can I buy replacement bulbs for a floor lamp that use LED technology instead of halogen or fluorescent? I know LEDs can be too narrow (I installed them in my car) and was wondering if they would accurately replicate the amount of light given off by a conventional bulb, and if they would be a simple screw-in replacement with the old bulbs.

ledtech answers:

LED technology is not yet advanced enough to totally replace conventional light bulbs. I love LEDs more than anything, but am still waiting for them to get better.

Right now they are good for back lighting, under cabinet lighting or accent lighting. But they do not put out the amount of lumens that a conventional or compact fluorescent bulb can.

Many manufacturers are stating that their LED replacement bulbs are putting out an equal amount of lumens, but the bottom line is that they are actually just not as bright.

Also the price is way too high for a good quality bulb right now.

Stick with compact fluorescent bulbs until the LEDs get a bit better and cheaper.

William asks…

Where could i buy led lightings such as led bulbs led lamp LED Lighting for Commercial Applications?

Richard asks…

what is the kind of the nokia N79 screen? TFT, OLED or another kind?

what is the kind of the nokia N79 screen? TFT, OLED or another kind?

ledtech answers:

Because OLED is expensive and sorta rare, if the phone had a AMOLED or OLED display you’d know about it, they’d make it very clear. So it’s probably just a TN or TFT if you are having a hard time finding out.

Donald asks…

What do you think is the best HDTV format? Plasma, LCD, OLED, or Laser?

What do you think is the best HDTV format? Plasma, LCD, OLED, or Laser?

Which one has the best picture quality?

ledtech answers:

I think Laser is the best HDTV format..

Steven asks…

How much are OLED Screens?

I want to know how much Flexible OLED screens are for a school marketing project, but they have yet to hit the market yet. What’s the best way to ballpark a figure? Is there a way to get the price of a normal OLED screen? I’ve tried contacting some companies, but they are no help.

ledtech answers:

The best advise i can offer you is to to check in the electronics mart then if that fails contact the manufacture…

Joseph asks…

How do you “program” OLED screens?

I’m not good with engineering and all. I’m planning on buying this OLED screen (http://www.liquidware.com/shop/show/OLED/1-5+OLED+Screen). I know that it’s just a screen and is wondering how you like make it display stuff. Do I connect a memory stick to it, or what? I’m trying to make the display as portable as possible. Please help. I’m just very confused and can’t find answers anywhere.

ledtech answers:

It’s just a component part, not a finished product. It’s up to whoever is buying this to design or obtain a circuit that can handle and manage output and input, and a sort of firmware or software. Like a portable DVD player, for example. The LCD screen is attached to the video outut portion of the circuit, while other parts handle the data input(reading the DVD) and commands that come from.

You can’t connect a memory stick to it, because the screen can’t interpret the data within and turn it into visual graphics.

David asks…

Will OLED’s be a major upgrade over plasma?

I currently have a Panasonic G25 plasma and I was wondering when OLED‘s come out, will they be a major upgrade to plasma, or will they be a minor upgrade in terms of picture quality?

ledtech answers:

Whether LED-backlit LCD or PDP, OLED, specifically AMOLED, displays (will) offer a significant and noticeable improvement in picture quality along with an immense improvement in display response time. That said however, I do not recommend being an early adopter unless you have a healthy amount of disposable income.

Aside from the obvious issue of cost there remains a few notable issues confronting OLED display manufacturers, namely display longevity with respect to luminance half-life, including greater consistency between each of the green, red, and blue organic LED materials that comprise the emission layer; the blue materials causing the most difficultly. And the other major issue, which more or less plagues all self-emissive display technologies, is that of image retention. Nevertheless, it’s reasonable to expect that these issues will eventually be mitigated and large OLED displays will quickly become commonplace. In fact OLED display technology has already begun to find a place in the demanding professional grade monitor market, which is a very good sign.

Please Advise.

Additional Details
Only Genuine parties who know may answer this question…
the small list i put are not all mandatory but it may be taken or read as “or”
Ie; Carb/Jets Or Fuel injection…

Like that…
thanks in advance

ledtech answers:

Boring and porting with a carb upjet and K & N airfilter:
cost : 4000 Rs. Milage can drop by half.
Sprocket set: drop a few teeth in front and you get more pick up. New set costs 1400Rs.
Tyres : get 3.25 or 3.5″ tyres for rear and 3″ for front,preferably zapper.
Spark plug: get a iridium spark plug. Costs 1300Rs a set.
Not to sound rude, but dont even think about the rest of the mods. They will affect the stability and handling characteristics of the bike and make it unsafe. Those mods are only for aesthetic value and not performance.
If you really want those features, get a CBR 600 RR 05 or above and spend another 30K Rs. You will get everything you mentioned for under 4.5lakhs.If you want a cheaper alternative, buy the Ninja 250. No under seat cans though. Hope this helps.

Special Relativity: problem with “moving clocks run slow”…?

Special Relativity: problem with “moving clocks run slow”…?

I can imagine being Superman (or some creature with godly-abilities) and I imagine riding alongside electricity as it raced down a telegraph wire. When he was sixteen, Einstein askked himself a similar question: what would a light beam look like if you could catch up to it? Einstein would recall, “Such a principle resulted from a paradox upon which I had already hit at the age of sixteen: If I pursue a beam of light with the velocity c (velocity of light in a vacuum), I should observe such a beeam of light as a spatially oscillatory electromagnetic field at rest………However, there seems to be no such thing,
whether on the basis of experience or according to Maxwell’s equationss.”
As a child, Einstein thought that if you could race alongside a light beam, it should appear frozen, like a motionless wave. However, no one had ever seen frozen light, so something was terribly wrong. At the turn of the century, there were two great pillars of physics upon which everything rested: Newton’s theory of mechanics and gravity, and ..Maxwell’s theory of light. In the 1860s, Scottish physicist Jammes Clerk Maxwell had shown that light consists of vibrating electric and magnetic fields constantly changing into each other.
What Einstein discovered, much to his shock, was that these two pillars
were in contradiction to each other, but how’z that possible?! !Furthermore,he belive that that one of them had to fall. wWithin Maxwell’s equations, he fouund the solution to the puzzle that had haunted him for ten years. But thenEinstein found something that Maxwell himself had missed: Maxwell’s equations showed that light traveled at a constant velocity, no matter how fast you tried to catch up to it. The speed of light c was the same in all inertial frames (tthat is, frammes traveling at constant velocity). Whether you were standing still, riding on a train, or sitting on a speeding comet, you would see a light beam racing ahead of you at the same speed. No matter how fast you moved, you could never outrace light. This immediately led to a thicket of paradoxes. Imagine, for the moment, an astronaut trying to catch up to a speeding light beam..The astronaut blasts off in his rocket ship until he is racing neckand- neck with the light beam. A bystander on Earth witnessing this hypothetical chase would claim that the astronaut and the light beam were moving side by side to each other. However, the astronaut would say something completely different, that the light beam sped away from him, just as if his rocket ship were at rest. The question confronting Einstein was: how can two people have such different interpretations of the same event? In Newton’s theory,one could always catch up to a light beam; in Einstein’s world, this was impossible. There was, he suddenly realized, a fundamental
flaw in the very foundation of physics. In the spring of 1905, Einstein recalled, “a storm broke out in my mind.” In one stroke, he finally found the solution: time beats at different rates, depending on how fast you move. In fact, the faster you move, the slower time progresses!!

Time is not an absolute, as Newton once thougt.According to Newton, time beat in.uniformly throughout the universe, so that the passage of one second on Earth was identical to one second on Jupiter or Mars. Clocks beat in absolute synchronization throughout the universe. This is what Newwton thought, which I disagee with.To Einstein, however, different clocks beat at different rates throughout the universe. If time could change depending on your velocity, Einstein realized, then other quantities, such as length, matter, and energy, should also change. He found that the faster you moved, the more distances contracted (which is sometimes called the Lorentz- FitzGerald contraction). Similarly, the faster you moved, the heavier you became. (In fact, as you approached the speed of light, time would slow down to a stop, distances would contract to nothing, and your mass would become infinite, which are all absurd. This is the reason why you cannot break the light barrier, which is the ultimatespeed limit in the universe.
So therefore, please refer to my numbered questions as follows:
1.What would a light-beam and the outside world look like if you could race along it at exactly the speed of light?
2.Can the universe exapdn faster than the speed of light? I suppose this expansion requires infinite energy to propel the fabric of space-time faster than the speed of light?
3.What, exactly, is the “fabric” of space?
4.Time is flawed. The whole definition of “time” is wher physicists have gone wrong. How can time decrease with speed?
5.Most importantly: EXACTLY why does moving clocks run slow? I tried to fiddle around with reading the Relativity theory, I ignored the difficult parts. However, I have a rather stupid idea. Suppose I threw a pocket-watch at close to the speed of light (not possible, I know,
5. Continued: if the clock reaches the speed of light, it will increase in mass, so it becomes more difficult for the battery fo the clock to move the arms that are now heavier. So this creates the illusion of “slowing down time”.
Sorry for the long question. Lmao.

ledtech answers:

1) You cannot move along next to light as it is propagating. This is what Einstein’s special relativity is all about. For a simple, easy-to-read, low-math explanation of special relativity, I would recommend, of course, Einstein’s “Relativity.”
2) The universe in fact can expand faster than the speed of light, thanks to our friend the cosmological constant. This is a factor in cosmology that we don’t truly understand, and yet we detect that it is there. It is an outward force on the expansion of space-time.
3) The “fabric” of space is the whole of space-time. Again, a special relativity book would help.
4) Time is not flawed. The physicists are right. Once again I direct your to a special relativity book.
5) This is a misunderstanding of special relativity. It has nothing to do with the mechanics of the clock at high speeds. Time itself moves slower for the clock. If you were to move at close to the speed of light, you would age slower than someone who was not.

These are good questions, but they can’t really be answered in a blurb on yahoo. Read a special relativity book and I would urge you not to ignore the “difficult” parts. Move at your own pace through it, it’s not that tough once you get into it.

Audi Q6 New model from Audi?

Audi Q6 combines the design and dynamism of a compact premium sports car with the spaciousness and versatility of a four-seat sport utility vehicle (SUV). Innovative technical solutions show new ways of achieving efficiency, driving pleasure and comfort in a manner that is typical of Audi. The Audi Q6: a car whose visual appearance clearly tells you what it is capable of and whose engineering matches this standard – on all roads, under all conditions.

Audi Q6 employs LED technology for both headlights and cornering lights. Here, the lens, reflector and beam deflector are integrated in a single component. LED technology is also used for the main-beam headlights. Thi car should be a hard competitor for the crossover BMW X6.

CPU/ Motherboard Problem — Help me i have tried everything!?

Hi, i have a very annoying and frustrating problem that i need solving as soon as possible, i have alot of work to get on with and I will be very greatfull if someone can assist me with my problem.

[ Computer only 7 Months old ]

Yesterday afternoon, i was on my PC, jst browsing the internet and doing some work, I had been on it for about 4-5 hours and then it just shut it self down, i didnt have a clue why, so i just restarted it… I booted up the PC and nothing came on the screen, my graphics card fan was funning, but it over powers the other fans normally so i didnt think any different.. I opened my case up as i thought it might just of overheated as the room was quite hot, i then noticed that my heatsink fan was not running and neither was my casefan, My PSU fan and graphics card fan where still running, i unplugged my CPU fan and case fan and blew in the holes to make sure no dust was inside.. this didnt help and the fans where still not running when i booted the computer, however they span once when i turned the computer off, so i knew power was getting to them. I took my heatsink off and had a look at the CPU for physical damage, there is none. i took out my RAM and replaced it and i have made sure everything is plugged in properly, I finally got my both fans working.. but i have had to plug them both into different connectors so the CPU fan is not in its original plug. but it is running fine.. I have tested my CPU too see if it got hot when i turned it on without the heatsink, however it doesnt get hot in 5 seconds.. at the moment i have my computer in bits on the floor without a solution.I have tried everything i can think off. I paid over £600 for it so i expect it to last over 7 months… the LED‘s on the motherboard are lighting up green and there are no beeps to indicate any problems.. Any help will be amazing.

PC Specs =

MB – Gigabyte EP45-DS3P
Graphics – ATI HD 4700 Series
RAM – 4 Gb Kingston HyperX and 4 Gb OCZPC2 8500 Goldseries
PSU – OCZ MOD Xstream-pro
CPU – Intel core 2 duo

ledtech answers:

Well, I hate to say this but you may have ruined the computer. If you took the heat sink off the processor you needed to reapply the heat paste before putting it back on. If the computer was only 7 months old it was probably still under warranty and you should have just contacted wherever you bought it from to see. I would suggest putting it all back together and then taking it in to a professional to get it checked out. Sorry to tell you that.

Wire gauge impact on alternator?

My daughter built an alternator for a science project, but it is only producing 0.4 volts of energy. We would like to increase this output about X4 so it will light up an LED. What would happen if she used a smaller gauge wire? Does this impact the output of the alternator? She really cannot change the overall design of her solution, based on the amount of time she has put into the project and how much time remains; meaning, she cannot go with larger magnets, etc. Thanks in advance for any input.
By smaller, I meant smaller diameter for the wire, not smaller gauge number.

This is a very small sixth grade science project alternator; therefore, the magnets are very small and weak. They spin very well and fast, but the magnets aren’t super duty by any stretch of the imagination.

ledtech answers:

LED’s are typically a DC device, and are forward biased, so using AC the LED will only be lit half the time anyway unless you use a rectifier.

To answer your question, the amount of windings on the stator is more important than the wire gauge. More windings = more power. That being said, smaller gauge wire will have less resistance and therefore produce a little more voltage. I suggest increasing the number of windings.

Toshiba Sattelite M50?

Both the AC in and the battery LEDs will not light up. Originally the AC in LED would not light but the Battery LED would and then go amber to show that the battery was no longer at 100% but now both LEDs will not work. Is the problem the AC adaptor or the battery or both or neither or something else and what is the solution?

ledtech answers:

Most likely the AC adapter or its power cable is defective and battery is now fully discharged. AC adapter should be able to power a laptop even with no battery.

A quick test with a multitester can confirm whether DC voltage is available or not on the output plug of adapter.

Sharon asks…

How do you like Calif , Calif County Board approves AZ boycott, then awards contract to Arizona company LOL?

Calling an Arizona law aimed at finding illegal immigrants un-American, Cook County commissioners today approved a resolution boycotting the state and giving the board power to end any contracts with vendors located in the state.

But in a quick turn of events, commissioners then approved a contract with a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company that will supply red-light cameras in the Cook suburbs.

Commissioners Edwin Reyes and Joseph Mario Moreno, the board’s lone Latinos, led the charge to boycott Arizona businesses.

“It’s just patented un-American, and it’s wrong,” Moreno said, while Reyes said it was a question of civil rights.

“No matter what the impact is, we’re taking a stand,” said Commissioner Earlean Collins, who voted in favor of the boycott. “Equal protection and equal justice under the law.”

The measure passed with 10 votes in favor, six against and one absent. But the opposition took the opportunity to flog the Obama administration for not moving fast enough to deal with immigration problems.

Republican Commissioner Tony Peraica called it “a hot potato that we have no business dealing with.’

“The pressure should be put on the White House, the Congress, all controlled by one party,” he said.

Commissioner Timothy Schneider worried what would happen if the shoe were on the other foot.

“Maybe Arizona is going to come back and boycott Cook County businesses,” he said.

“We’re punishing people, businesses in Arizona that may oppose this particular law,” said Commissioner Peter Silvestri.

Shortly after the resolution passed, commissioners debated awarding a contract for a pilot red-light camera project to American Traffic Solutions, based in Scottsdale and RedSpeed Illinois, based in Lombard.

While Reyes intoduced an amendment that would have eliminated American Traffic Solutions from receiving the contract, other commissioners noted RedSpeed Illinois is a subsidiary of a British company.

“I find this abhorrent that we’re going to renounce an American company because of a foolhardy resolution,” Peraica said. American Traffic Solutions employs about 900 people in various regions in the United States; RedSpeed Illinois employs 25 people.
Commissioners eventually approved the contract, noting the boycott would not become official until it was signed by County Board President Todd Stroger and filed with the county clerk’s office, a process which could take up to five days.

The red-light camera project won’t be in effect until sometime in 2011, said Rupert Graham, superintendent of highways. The County Board had expected to earn about $2 million from the cameras this year.

http://www.chicagocurrent.com/articles/31341-County-Board-approves-Arizona-boycott-then-awards-contract-to-Arizona-company

I love how activists throw out “un-American” in this context without actually understanding what it means. And then to give a contract to an Arizona company—priceless

ledtech answers:

I think that Arizona should determine that people are undocumented immigrants, then bus them all to Los Angeles and San Francisco, since both cities think they are a good thing. Arizona should be able to drop off about a thousand people a day at, say, City Hall. That way Arizona can’t be accused of the heartless practice of deporting them.

Car Amplifier – No Power?

I have a Infinity 475a hooked up in my car: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/products/2007/108/h108R475A-fp.jpg

Randomly on the road the sound cut out. I unmounted it and tested the terminals with a voltmeter. BATT+ to GROUND was good, and REM to GROUND were both good. The blue bars you see on it will light up, but the PWR LED will not. It is not in protect mode. According to the manual:

“PROBLEM: No audio (POWER LED is off).
CAUSE and SOLUTION: No voltage at BATT+
and/or REM terminals, or bad or no ground
connection. Check voltages at amplifier
terminals with VOM.”

But That obviously is not helping my problem. What could be going on?
The fuse between the amplifier and battery is intact, as well as the two on the amp itself.

ledtech answers:

Just to make it clear you must have 12v at the battery and 12v at the Rem wire – and the ground should be bolted down to solid bare metal-
i have this same amp – and I hate it – It whines-
basically though you have a 4 ch. And it may be cutting out becuse a problem with one of the speakers – It a speaker is damaged, or it one of the speaker terminals is touching a ground, or if one of the speaker connections is loose at the terminal —- These can all cause the audio to short out-
Take it to a pro – My bet would be that the speakers are wired incorrectly or one of them blew out.
